We do not retain clients’ original wills or powers of attorney at Chiltern Wills. In our experience, there is a great deal to be said for clients knowing exactly where their important documents are and remaining in control of them. Many people come to us unsure where their original documents are held after mergers, office closures or changes of ownership in law firms over the years. We therefore encourage clients to store their documents safely at home, and to ensure their executors and attorneys know where they can be found.
With clients’ permission, we keep copies on file as a useful backup, and for clients who would prefer not to store documents themselves, we are happy to suggest reputable professional storage providers. We believe simplicity, transparency and client control are often the best approach.
